About Javeline

Company Profile

Javeline's mission is to provide the means to quickly create applications that run both online and offline, and are easy to maintain.

Javeline's founders, Rik Arends and Ruben Daniëls, started out by developing two complementary applications to fulfill that mission: Javeline PlatForm and Javeline DeskRun.

From an early idea that it was theoretically possible to create rich user interfaces in the browser, development on Javeline PlatForm started in 2000. An initial version of Javeline TelePort called vcXMLRPC was released in 2001, gaining press from the likes of Adobe and O'Reilly as the first open source Ajax library (although the term 'Ajax' wasn't coined at that time). As a result of a strong need to have a hybrid desktop/web application environment grew Javeline DeskRun, combining the strengths of the web with those of the desktop.

With a strong belief in the evolutionary principles of software development, we refrained from releasing any software until we felt the core had stabilized enough. Between 2005 and 2007, we used our software in numerous projects for customers like Vonage, eBuddy, SDU and others, where it has been in use daily by millions of people in every corner of the world.

In June 2007, we took a big step towards a more open and freely available way to fulfill our mission; by releasing Javeline PlatForm on an open source license and providing a means for our developer community to interact. With a strong sense that our mission extends beyond technology development, we invested strongly in community support with educational material, including guides, tutorials, articles, example applications, demos, and movies.

What is a 'Javeline'?

"Javeline" is French for Javelin or spear. We choose the name for its association with speed, a property we value highly in both application development and overall application performance. Furthermore, the first three letters of Javeline are the same as those of JavaScript, the language in which Javeline PlatForm is built.
